The city has started construction on two affordable housing projects on Tucson's south side.
Tucson officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday for the Lariat Village at 860 E. Irvington Rd., near South Park Avenue.
It will offer 120 units ranging from one to three bedrooms that are "designed for workforce housing needs," a spokesman for Mayor Regina Romero said.

Romero has proclaimed April as "Fair Housing Month" in recognition of the federal Fair Housing Act of 1968.
Also Friday, Romero joined county, state and federal officials, including U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva, at a ribbon-cutting event for Desert Dove, an affordable housing complex at 6175 S. Midvale Park Rd., near West Valencia Road.
The complex was built on land set aside by Desert Dove Christian Church for affordable housing, the mayor's spokesman said.

It will have 63 units across four buildings along with a common space, which will include a walk-in freezer for the church to use during food distribution efforts.
"When Mayor and Council adopted the Housing Affordability Strategy for Tucson, we recognized the need for a comprehensive approach, from emergency shelter to homeownership, and everything in between," Romero said Friday during the groundbreaking at Lariat Village. "Today, we have over 1,200 units of affordable housing in development across the city. This groundbreaking that we celebrate today is proof that when we work together — the state, the county, the city and private partners — we can deliver real solutions for our community."
As part of Fair Housing Month, a community barbecue will be held Saturday, April 18, at Freedom Park, 5000 E. 29th St.
The event, sponsored by the Tucson Chapter of the NAACP and the 29th Street Thrive Zone, will include information on housing rights, the city's home repair program, how to reduce utility costs, upcoming community cleanup events and information on the city's code enforcement.
